Civic issues
Topics getting the most attention in Hudson public meetings, ranked by how frequently they come up.
Alleged conflict of interest and recusal of Council Member D'Eramo
Multiple residents demanded D'Eramo recuse herself because her brother works at Tucker Ellis, the firm suing the city for the developer, citing six executive sessions on Canterbury Meadows. D'Eramo said she disclosed the tie, was removed from discussions pending the solicitor's review, and is recusing out of an abundance of caution.
Fire/EMS facility improvements
City Manager Sheridan announced Fire & EMS reached 24/7 coverage two weeks ahead of schedule, already responding to a railroad incident. The station renovation is running well under the $5 million budget.
Low-speed vehicle rules (Chapter 478)
Hudson's rules for golf carts and low-speed vehicles got a final rewrite. The compromise lets these vehicles cross or travel up to a quarter-mile on 35 mph roads to reach permitted streets, requires street-rated tires, and keeps a night curfew. Some residents wanted more freedom; one council member still thinks they don't belong on Hudson roads at all.
Executive session error voided a prior ARC decision
The BZBA threw out the board's earlier Keppner's door denial because the board improperly went into executive session before voting, forcing a fresh hearing.
Engineering standards for fiber/drilling construction
After gas and water line strikes during fiber installation, the city is halting directional drilling until utilities are visually confirmed, switching to hydro excavation, and adding inspectors. Expect fiber rollout to take longer.
Emergency communications gaps
Hudson residents near the Twinsburg Township gas explosion got no city alert, and council wants answers. Staff will return with plans to expand Code Red access, add 'all clear' messages, and coordinate alerts with neighboring cities.
Fire Hydrants on Middleton and Stow Roads
Council approved installing 14 hydrants on the Akron watermain along Middleton and Stow Roads, improving fire protection, though two members cited liability concerns.
Hines Hill Road / Route 91 intersection safety
Council members flagged recent crashes at Hines Hill and Route 91 — including a serious motorcycle crash in May and a February fatality nearby — and asked that the intersection get a dedicated safety committee review, separate from the speed limit change.
City Solicitor Appointment and In-House Counsel Debate
Dr. Goetz proposed an ordinance to hire a full-time city solicitor, arguing the current contract arrangement costs about $300,000 and that a broader search was never done. It was seconded and placed on the June 2 agenda.
